In July, Anglepoise were given a very special opportunity to feature several Anglepoise lamps in Portsmouth’s historic Fort Cumberland.
Constructed between 1785 and 1810 by the Duke of Cumberland to protect Langstone Harbour on the English south coast, Fort Cumberland is a visually impressive pentagonal fort that overlooks the coast.
Owned and operated by Historic England, Fort Cumberland took its current geometric form following an extensive rebuild and reconstruction to bolster its defensive and strategic capabilities. In the 1850s, the fort became the headquarters of the Royal Marine Artillery and used by the Royal Marines until the 1970s, eventually becoming a Grade II Listed Building and part of Historic England.
The unique site is currently being repurposed into a destination which will lift its current ‘heritage at risk’ status.
